Talking to Your Doctor
Working closely with your doctor is the key to managing your schizophrenia treatment.
Talk to your doctor. And learn as much as you can about any medicine your doctor
prescribes. This will help you manage your treatment.
To aid in your dialogue, Tell your doctor:
- How you have been feeling recently
- About any major changes in your life
- About all medicines you take and any medical problems you may have
- About any medical problems in your family
- About any heart problems you may have had
- If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
Questions to ask about treatment
If your doctor prescribes medication, this checklist may help:
- Why did you choose this particular medicine for me?
- What is the best way to take my medicine?
- If I take this medicine as prescribed, what benefits can I expect?
- What are the possible side effects of this medicine?
- How often should I schedule office visits?
- What are the most important things I can do to stay healthy?
- If I have an episode while taking this medicine, what should I do?
- In an emergency, what should I do? What happens if an episode happens after the
doctor’s office hours?
- Would my condition benefit from other therapies?
