If you have schizophrenia, you’re not alone. Schizophrenia affects more than 2 million
American adults.
Schizophrenia typically first appears between the late teens and mid 30s. It’s more
common in men. And schizophrenia tends to first appear 3-4 years earlier in men
than in women.
Schizophrenia has been shown to run in families. A child with one parent who has
schizophrenia is about 10 times more likely to get the disease than a child whose
parents do not have the disease. However, people without a family history of schizophrenia
can also have the disease.
GEODON is not approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in patients younger than 18 years old.
Family and friends
People who have schizophrenia are not the only ones affected by the illness. If
you have schizophrenia, your illness can be disruptive to the lives of your friends
and family too. If someone you care about has schizophrenia, you may find yourself
spending a good deal of your time taking care of their needs. Get suggestions on
what you can do to help someone
with schizophrenia and how to take care of yourself.
